Run Wild Race Report

Run Wild on the Prairie was a fun, local 5k that was sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and a bunch of local businesses. The event benefited the El Campo Museum of Natural History. No timing chip tags here, just an old school .45 for the starting gun (blanks) and an official stop watch at the finish line! I think there were about 65 runners, and probably almost as many walkers.

I guess the rest time must have payed off. Ten minutes in, I could still feel the stressed out hamstring that had been bothering me for the last week, but it seems that taking a few days off was exactly what was needed, and I was feeling pretty good.  I was running with a pastor that I know who conducts my kids summer bible classes and I think is about ten years younger than me.  We ran together chatting for about the first half, but suddenly when I turned my head to say something to him, it seems I had left him in the dust... sorry, it was unintentional.

Below is a ShakyRunCam pic that I took of a woman I was behind the whole time who just plain smoked me.  This pic is as close as I got and no matter how I tried, I was never was able to catch her. Great run who ever you are!

From there on out, I was just enjoying the great weather, the smell of breakfast bacon and eggs wafting through neighborhood and the sounds of the town. Then I rounded the last corner of the course, and there was the start/finish line.  It was a really nice added touch to have the cheer squad from the local dance team doing their thing for everybody crossing the line. Cool!

Overall, it was a fun start to a beautiful day, and I got a new 5k personal record as a bonus.  My last, best 5k race time was 29:47, and I beat myself good with this one. I ended with a 26:36 time (I think- awaiting confirmation).  Thanks to the E.C. Museum, the E.C. Chamber of Commerce, all the volunteers, and Texas Jazz Cheer Team for a great morning! Also thanks to the ECPD for making it safe on the roads.
